Food delivery robots, pizza ATM feed college students' demand for convenience

Robot food delivery on college campuses is no longer the wave of the future. In fact, George Mason University has 25 robots that deliver food and drinks to students on campus. And at University of California Berkeley, Kiwi has an on-campus robot food delivery service. Other schools such as Ohio State have “pizza ATMs” in their cafeterias, where machines heat up and serve pre-made pies within three minutes. Robot delivery services continue to test their bots on college campuses across the country, taking into consideration challenges such as uneven pavement, pedestrians, and the elements.Key

Takeaways:
  • Starship has deployed its robots for food delivery just outside of Washington D.C. while Kiwi is presently delivering food at the University of California.
  • The robots deployed on college campus are about as big as a small cooler on wheels and have all-terrain wheel for the challenges of uneven sidewalks.
  • These robot pilots on university campuses are just part of a greater test for a future where robot carts share the sidewalk with us.

"Robot delivery creators have found college campuses to be prime testing zones due to the enclosed areas with large swaths of pedestrian paths."
